Signing without printing and scanning

When you need to sign a contract or form PDF and send it back, you can place a signature image directly on the PDF instead of printing, signing and scanning it. The original text and pages stay as they are; only the signature image is added.

On the Sign a PDF page, choose one PDF (up to 50 MB), create a signature, place it and save. The result is saved as “filename-signed.pdf”.

02

Preparing the signature: draw or upload

With “Draw”, sign in the signature box with a mouse or finger. When you lift it, the empty margin around the signature is trimmed automatically, so the box placed on the preview matches the signature itself.

If you have a stamp or a scanned signature, upload it as PNG or JPG with “Upload image”. A PNG with a transparent background overlaps text naturally; a JPG with a white background can hide text underneath, so put it on an empty area.

03

Getting the page and position right

Choose the page to sign and it appears as a preview; drag the signature to where it belongs. The size slider sets it between 5% and 60% of the page width, and the signature cannot leave the page.

The position you see on the preview is what goes into the PDF. In a test signing the top-left of page 2 of a two-page document, page 1 stayed unchanged and the signature landed in the same spot on page 2. To sign several pages, open the saved file and repeat.

An image signature is not a digital signature

This tool places a signature image. It is different from a digital signature, which seals the document with a certificate to prove who signed it and whether it changed; no certificate information is added to the document.

Many recipients accept image signatures, but some contracts or institutions require a certificate-based or e-signature service. Check with the recipient or the relevant guidance what is needed for the signed document to be valid.

If it does not work

Password-protected PDFs may not open or save. If you are allowed to remove the password, remove it and try again. For scanned PDFs whose pages are rotated, the tool currently asks you to choose another page instead of adding the signature.

After saving, open the result and check the signature position and size and that the other pages are unchanged. The original PDF is not modified, so start from it if you need to sign again.

Before using this on a real file

Keep the original and check the content, size and format of the result.
