Numbers refer to the physical page order of the PDF
In a document where the body starts with a printed ‘1’ after a cover and a table of contents, that page may be the third page in your PDF viewer. The tool does not read printed page numbers; it uses the position in the PDF, counting the first page as 1. Check the position in your viewer’s go-to-page box before you type it.
In the PDF tools, choose the ‘Split PDF’ tab and add one PDF. The file size limit is 50MB. If you leave the range empty, all pages are included.
Combining ranges and single pages
Use a hyphen for consecutive pages, as in 1-3, and commas to separate pages that are apart. Entering ‘1-3, 5’ for a 5-page document selects pages 1, 2, 3 and 5. Both ends of a range are included.
Spaces around numbers are allowed, but full-width commas, semicolons and words such as ‘page’ are not. If a range you pasted fails, type it again using a standard comma and an ordinary hyphen.
How input order and duplicates are handled
Selected pages are sorted into the original document order and duplicates are removed. ‘3, 1, 1-2’ becomes pages 1, 2 and 3. Typing ‘3, 1’ does not work as a reordering feature that puts page 3 first.
If you need to duplicate a page several times or arrange pages in reverse, range input alone will not do it. Treat extracting a range and reordering pages as separate tasks.
Invalid input and how to fix it
For a 5-page document, 0, 6 and 3-1 are invalid. Pages must be between 1 and the total page count, and the end of a range cannot be smaller than its start. ‘1,,3’ and ‘1-’ are also format errors.
If an error appears, correct the input and run it again. If the PDF itself will not open, check whether it is damaged or password-protected before looking at the range. Also double-check that you chose page positions in the file, not the numbers printed on the pages.
Choosing between ZIP and a single PDF
The per-page ZIP option makes each selected page a separate PDF and puts them in a ZIP. The single-PDF option combines the selected pages, in their original order, into one PDF.
If you have to submit one document, a single PDF is the better fit. To split chapters into separate files for review, choose ZIP. Opening the result and comparing the first page, the last page and the total page count will reveal any numbering mix-ups.
Keep the original and check the content, size and format of the result.
